These adult and sub-adult sea lion males can be found on the docks nearly year-round. They generally stay for 11 months out of the year and migrate in July to the Channel Islands where the females are. After breeding, they usually return around the first week in August. 
 
It’s not unusual to see dozens of sea lions rafted up on the surface of the bay, “jugging” (sticking their flippers up out of the water in a jug handle shape). Scientists suspect this behavior may help them maintain a warm internal body temperature
